Nominations for TRO’s 2013-2015 Board of Directors
Were you successful in accomplishing your New Year’s resolutions this year? Do you feel challenged professionally? With spring fast approaching, now is the time to reflect on your resolutions and goals and perhaps set new ones that will take you through to 2015! If this is something that you or someone you know needs to consider, the opportunity below is a great start.We are currently looking for people who are interested in running for TRO board positions. There are 5 positions for members-at-large. A member-at-large position is a two year commitment. Members-at-large are assigned to committees based on interest and experience. As well, we are looking for someone interested in the President-Elect Position. This position is a three year commitment: year 1 President Elect, Year 2 President, Year 3 Past President. Board Nominations: As per TRO Bylaw 4.2 (e): “The Chair of the Nominating Committee shall inquire among Members of the Association, at least 30 days prior to an Annual General Meeting, or at least 15 days prior to a Special Meeting, if appropriate, as to the persons whom the members would propose be nominated for the offices of President Elect and Board Members.”
Nomination Procedure: The act of nominating TRO Board members is a right and a responsibility of all TRO members. The Nominations Committee urges you to take part in this important process by identifying and approaching individuals for possible nomination. The straw ballot provides you with the opportunity to do so.
Each year prior to the AGM, the Nomination Committee shall solicit nominations of one or more candidates for each of the Board offices to be filled. In selecting the candidate, consideration will be given to professional qualifications including education and experience, service to TRO and the field of therapeutic recreation, endorsement of the leisure-based philosophy, geographical balance on the Board and other factors considered relevant by the Committee. Following nomination, each candidate shall confirm, in writing, his/her intent to serve if elected.
The Nominations Committee: shall present to the membership a slate of candidates for the Board vacancies at the TRO Annual General Meeting in Kingston during the 2013 TRO Conference.
Board elections occur at the AGM. The slate of candidates will be presented to the membership for a vote. Elections will occur by ballot.
Nominations from the floor will be taken only if there are vacant positions on the slate. The 2013-2014 slate of officers will be announced prior to the completion of the AGM.
