Hello TRO Members and Happy Fall! As this new season is upon us, I am very thankful.
I am thankful for 16 wonderful years in a profession that I absolutely love! I am thankful for everything that my fellow Recreation Therapy colleagues, clients, patients, and now students have taught me over the years. I am thankful to our board and staff for their ongoing work on behalf of our members. I am thankful for you as a Therapeutic Recreation professional, and for continuing to be dedicated to TRO, our profession, and those we serve.
These last 18 months have been challenging, to say the least. As Therapeutic Recreation Professionals we all know that barriers might slow us down, but they don’t stop us! They also have not stopped TRO from moving forward. We continue to be focused on our mission and vision and goals of serving members and advancing the profession. We are excited to have refreshed the website over the summer and to be partnering with Behaviour Supports Ontario (BSO) in offering a joint workshop this fall. We are offering another informative TRO Webinar Series on our new platform to support your continued learning and growth in the profession. Advocacy was a big focus in 2021. Please click here to review TRO’s advocacy efforts for 2021 and be sure to tune into our webinar in February 2022 where we will talk about TRO’s advocacy strategy for the upcoming election. As we have several new board members, we have decided to proceed with strategic planning in 2022 so that we can get together in person safely.
Our professional development opportunities continue with the 2022 TRO Conference at the awesome Nottawasaga Inn Resort and Conference Centre, June 8-10 2022. I encourage you to attend so we can learn and network together.
As always, thank you for your continued support and faith in our organization. I look forward to this year with positivity and optimism. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime at president@trontario.org.
Sincerely,
Shannon McCallum R/TRO
President
