Board Directors

Monica Almas, R/TRO, CTRS

My name is Monica Almas and I have been working in the field of Therapeutic Recreation (TR) for 14 years. I completed my undergraduate degree in TR from the University of Waterloo and I maintain my registration designation, R/TRO, and my Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credentials. The majority of my career has been spent working in the mental health sector, working at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, where my last position was working in the Concurrent Disorders program on the inpatient unit. I started teaching at Mohawk College in the Recreation Therapy program in 2016, and I recently started as a full time Faculty member teaching in this program in August 2017. I believe that wearing the hat of a TR practitioner and now a TR educator as well, I have an opportunity to provide contributions towards the work that TRO does from multiple perspectives. I am excited to join the TRO Board of Directors as a Membership and Professional services board member, as I am passionate about TR and committed to supporting TRO, its members, students in the field of TR, and future potential members. I look forward to working with you!
