As Recreation Professionals we’re focused on motivating, inspiring and supporting our clients to reach their goals and enjoy meaningful leisure experiences. However, all too often we feel stuck on teams, or manage teams that zap our energy and leave us depleted at the end of a meeting or workday. How can we improve the team dynamics in the companies, organizations, departments and interdisciplinary teams that we are members, contributors and managers of?  If you’re leading a team or are a member of a team, then join us and learn three strategies that your team can use to leverage its collective genius.

Writing the Blues

January 15, 2019, 11 am to 12 pm

Presenters: Erin Ledrew, R/TRO, and Katie DuTemple

This webinar is about a music workshop that was created by Katie DuTemple, a singer/songwriter volunteer, and is facilitated with Erin LeDrew, R/TRO, CTRS recreation specialist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Participants learn about the blues as an art form, and how to construct a traditional blues song. Through collaborative efforts, participants create lyrics, which are then sung by the volunteer, which creates a powerful impact for the participants. This workshop has generated tremendous therapeutic benefits to the participants who attend, including a new coping strategy, a creative outlet and an increased sense of self-efficacy. Participants are able to use the techniques provided in the workshop to write lyrics and poetry; to journal creatively and to think about difficult topics in a productive way. Most importantly this workshop teaches participants new skills to cope and manage stressors in their life, which is crucial in successful recovery from mental illness and addiction.

Using Online Tools Effectively for Program Evaluation and Research

February 28, 2019, 11 am to 12 pm

Presenters: Tiina Liinamma and Stacy Jowett, R/TRO

Free online survey tools are readily available for all of us to use for personal and business use. However, using these tools effectively to obtain information required is a skill unto itself. Surveyees, for example, must be considered in terms of language and accessibility. Questions must be developed carefully and thoughtfully in order to obtain the necessary information. This webinar will provide important tips and details on how to create an effective survey. Also included are some ideas for distribution and motivation to complete and how to implement one on a small or larger scale (in-house or provincial).
